DESCRIPTION: ...MIXED WINTER EVENT WITH SNOW, SLEET, AND ICE ACCUMULATION THROUGH SATURDAY... .A mixed precipitation event will persist across Minnesota into Wisconsin through Saturday. Across parts of central Minnesota, this will mainly fall as snow with up to 7 inches possible. Farther south, a band of freezing rain and sleet from southwest Minnesota to northwest Wisconsin will see ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch. There will be a sharp cutoff in these ice accumulations, as this will be very sensitive to where the freezing line sets up. * WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations up to 4 inches, sleet accumulations between one tenth and two tenths of an inch, and ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Benton, McLeod, Meeker, Sherburne, Stearns, Wright, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, and Mille Lacs Counties. In Wisconsin, Barron, Polk, and Rusk Counties. * WHEN...Until 10 PM CDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute.

Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are
characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets
than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.
Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km)
and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer.
These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift
in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
