DESCRIPTION: ...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Indiana... East Fork White River at Shoals. East Fork White River near Bedford. East Fork White River near Rivervale. East Fork White River at Williams. East Fork White River at Seymour. .Minor to moderate flooding continues on the East Fork White after the significant rainfall last week. Additional rainfall of one to two inches Tuesday through Wednesday is likely to bring additional rises on the East Fork at Seymour and lengthen the amount of time downriver points spend in flood. The crest on the East Fork is between Bedford and Williams and is forecast to reach Shoals Tuesday night but take until the weekend to fall back below moderate flood there. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...East Fork White River at Williams. * WHEN...Until Thursday, March 19. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, Local residents in a few river cabins may have to evacuate. Backwater affects some residents along local streams. Extensive flooding is in progress. Dillman Road (CR 1000 W) immediately north of Indiana 450 just west of Williams is flooded by as much as 2 feet of water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:30 AM EDT Monday the stage was 16.1 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:30 AM EDT Monday was 16.1 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 16.4 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday, March 19. - Flood stage is 8.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

INSTRUCTION: Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Sleet is a form of precipitation in which small ice pellets are the primary components. These ice pellets are smaller and more translucent than hailstones, and harder than graupel. Sleet is caused by specific atmospheric conditions and therefore typically doesn't last for extended periods of time.

The condition which leads to sleet formation requires a warmer body of air to be wedged in between two sub-freezing bodies of air. When snow falls through a warmer layer of air it melts, and as it falls through the next sub-freezing body of air it freezes again, forming ice pellets known as sleet. In some cases, water droplets don't have time to freeze before reaching the surface and the result is freezing rain.

Stratocumulus Clouds Next Topic: Stratus Clouds

Stratocumulus clouds are similar to altocumulus clouds in their fluffy appearance, but have a slightly darker shade due to their additional mass.

A good way to distinguish the two cloud types is to hold your hand out and measure the size of an individual cloud; if it is the size of your thumb it is generally an altocumulus cloud, if it is the size of your hand it is generally a stratocumulus cloud.

It is uncommon for stratocumulus clouds to produce precipitation, but if they do it is usually a light rain or snow.
